Medicare Options after you sign-up for Part A & Part B (part 1)

Updated: Jun 13

Medicare Supplement vs Medicare Advantage

Do you prefer a fancy night out or a quick food truck meal?

Choosing between Medicare Supplement and Medicare Advantage plans can be like choosing between a fancy restaurant and a food truck. Both options have their own unique benefits and drawbacks, and it all depends on your personal preferences.

Medicare Supplement plans, also known as Medigap plans, are like going to a fancy restaurant.

They offer a wider range of benefits, including the ability to see any doctor who accepts Medicare, and they don't require referrals to see specialists. However, they can be more expensive than Medicare Advantage plans and often require the purchase of a separate Part D drug plan.

On the other hand, Medicare Advantage plans are like visiting a food truck.

They often have lower premiums and can offer additional benefits like dental, vision, and hearing coverage. However, they typically have more limited networks, and you may need to choose a primary care doctor and get referrals to see specialists.

Do you prefer a five-course meal with all the bells and whistles or grabbing a quick

and cheap taco from the food truck? Medicare Supplement plans offer a more comprehensive approach to coverage, while Medicare Advantage plans offer a more budget-friendly option with additional benefits.

Another key difference between the two is how they handle out-of-pocket costs. With Medicare Supplement plans, you'll generally pay a higher premium but have fewer out-of-pocket expenses. With Medicare Advantage plans, you'll typically pay lower premiums but may face higher out-of-pocket costs for services like hospital stays or specialist visits.

With Medigap, you’re paying a premium price for a fancy meal that covers everything. With Medicare Advantage, you’re paying a lower price for your taco but if you want to add extra hot sauce or guacamole, it will be an additional cost.

In conclusion, both Medicare Supplement and Medicare Advantage plans have their own unique pros and cons, and it's up to you to choose the option that best meets your needs and budget.

Whether you prefer a fancy night out or a quick and easy food truck meal, there's a Medicare plan out there for you.
