If Medicare Supplement plans were ice cream flavors, which one would you order?

Three bowls of ice cream topped with colorful sprinkles, pink balls, and chocolate chips on a pink surface with cones, spoons, and napkins, illustrating that Medicare Supplement Plans are like ice cream flavors - lots to choose from.

Choosing a Medicare Supplement plan can be like choosing your favorite ice cream flavor - there are many options to consider! Each plan has its own unique blend of

benefits, costs, and coverage levels.

Medicare Supplement plans, also known as MedSupp or Medigap plans, are offered by private insurance companies to help seniors cover the costs of healthcare services that traditional Medicare doesn't cover. There are ten standardized Medigap plans to choose from, each labeled with a different letter from A to N.

Two scoops of vanilla ice cream are like Medicare Supplement Plan A in a white bowl on a dark wooden table. Creamy texture and inviting appearance, with a spoon nearby.

Plan A - Think of it like vanilla ice cream — classic and simple.

This plan covers the core essentials, including Medicare Part A coinsurance and hospital costs, along with Part B coinsurance and copayments. It’s a solid choice if you’re looking for straightforward coverage at an affordable price.

A white bowl with chocolate chip ice cream is like Medicare Supplement Plan B with a spoon on a turquoise plate. Chocolate chips are scattered, creating a fresh, sweet mood.

Plan B - This plan is similar to Plan A but adds coverage for the Medicare Part A deductible.

Think of it like adding chocolate chips to your vanilla ice cream — it’s that little extra boost that makes your coverage even sweeter.

Sundae in a glass dish with whipped cream, cherry, chocolate syrup, and nuts on a white plate is what you can expect with a Medicare Supplement Plan C. Spoon beside, on a wooden table.

Plan C - Think of this one as the hot fudge sundae — it covers nearly all your out-of-pocket costs, including the Part B deductible, excess charges, and even foreign travel emergency coverage. Just keep in mind, it’s only available to those who were eligible for Medicare before January 1, 2020.

Ice cream sundae in a glass dish with vanilla scoops and chocolate sauce is Medicare Supplement Plan D. Marble background. Dessert setting.

Plan D - This plan is similar to Plan C but does not cover the Part B deductible. Think of it like a sundae without the whipped cream and nuts — still a great option, just missing that little extra topping.

Banana split with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, cherry, chocolate syrup, and nuts in a dish on a striped napkin is what you can get with a Medicare Supplement Plan F.
Blue table background.

Plan F - Think of this plan as the banana split — it covers nearly all out-of-pocket costs, including the Part B deductible, excess charges, and foreign travel emergency coverage. It’s the most comprehensive option available, but it also comes with a higher premium. Like adding every topping to your ice cream, you get the full experience — it just costs a little extra.

Keep in mind, this plan is only available to those who were eligible for Medicare before January 1, 2020.

Sundae in a glass dish with vanilla ice cream, drizzled caramel sauce, and a caramel square on top is like Medicare Supplement Plan G. White background, elegant setting.

Plan G - Think of it like a caramel sundae — it covers nearly everything Plan F does, except the Part B deductible. It’s a great option if you want comprehensive coverage while keeping your premium more affordable.

Pink sorbet with mint garnish in a glass dish is what you can expect with a Medicare Supplement Plan K. Yellow-patterned fabric in the background adds a cheerful contrast.

Plan K - Think of it as a scoop of sorbet — refreshing and lighter on the monthly premium, but with fewer benefits. It covers 50% of Medicare Part A coinsurance and hospice care costs, along with 50% of Part B coinsurance and copayments.

Three ice cream scoops: green, yellow, pink, in a glass bowl with kiwi, raspberries, and mint leaves symbolize a Medicare Supplement Plan L. Bright, fresh, and colorful setting.

Plan L - This plan is similar to Plan K but covers a higher percentage of coinsurance and copayments. Think of it like a bigger scoop of sorbet — still light and refreshing, just with a little more coverage.

Plan M - Think of it like a swirl cone — a balanced, middle-of-the-road option that covers some, but not all, out-of-pocket costs. It pays 50% of the Part A deductible, along with all Part A coinsurance and hospital costs. It also covers 50% of Part B coinsurance and copayments.

A waffle cone holds pink, blue, and yellow ice cream scoops with sprinkles. Orange slices are on the side. This is a symbol of what you can expect to get with a Medicare Supplement Plan N. The background is softly blurred.

Plan N - Think of it like a waffle cone — sturdy and reliable, covering most out-of-pocket costs with just a small copayment for certain services. It includes the Part A deductible, coinsurance, and hospital costs, along with Part B coinsurance and copayments. You may pay up to $20 for doctor visits and up to $50 for emergency room visits.
