The Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as Obamacare, is a comprehensive healthcare reform law enacted in 2010 to make health insurance more accessible and affordable in the U.S. It introduced key provisions such as income-based subsidies to help lower the cost of insurance, expanded Medicaid eligibility in many states, and established health insurance marketplaces for individuals and small businesses to compare and purchase plans. The ACA also mandated coverage for essential health benefits, prohibited insurers from denying coverage due to pre-existing conditions, and allowed young adults to stay on their parents' insurance until age 26.
